The maps are generated using data from the cumulonimbus cloud forecasts provided by NOAA/NWS and the Met Office. They are updated every 6 hours.

Cumulonimbus clouds, or thunderstorms clouds, can generate heavy rainfall, hail, lightning and tornadoes. The strength of these events varies depending on the size of the cloud: extreme levels for large and densely packed clouds, and moderate levels for smaller and isolated clouds.
