The map is generated using the pilot reports gathered by NOAA/NWS. These reports are issued continuosly by pilots and have a validity of about 1.5 hours. We update the map every 15 minutes.

Pilot reports are almost exclusive to the United States. Europe or other parts of the world do not use such system.
